On Site School Programs for BC Schools
On-site school programs on a variety of subjects have been given every year for nearly 30 years at the RBCM. Each year an average of 8 to 10 programs are given on subjects ranging from pioneer life to marine biology. Programs are offered from the middle of October to the end of May and takes place in the museum galleries and classroom.

Journeys and Transformations - Lesson Plans
These lesson plans were developed to support the Journeys and Transformations section of this site, which presents the environments of BC: mountains, forests, waters, grasslands and cities. In each environment, there are topics relating to natural and human histories, including accounts provided by First Nations. These separate regions and topics are interconnected in many ways and students are encouraged to investigate these links and relationships. Although presented under separate headings, the land and all the life forms on it are connected.

Self-Conducted Tours/Activity Sheets
Each year hundreds of school classes visit the museum on self-conducted tours of the museum. British Columbia schools can receive complimentary admission to the Royal BC Museum exhibits, so many teachers use the museum exhibits as a learning resource for their class. Gallery activity sheets are available upon request. These activity sheets challenge students to search through the galleries for answers to questions on the history and biology of British Columbia. Activity sheets are available for each of the permanent galleries, Living Land, Living Sea, the First People's Gallery and Modern History Gallery.

Self-conducted tours must be pre-booked at least two business days in advance and must have an adult/student supervisory ratio of 1 to 5.

Teacher Previews
Teachers receive complimentary admission to preview the galleries in order to do preparatory work for pre-booked class visits. These visits must also be pre-booked two business days in advance.

Teachers coming for previews can also take advantage of the resource files in Customer Services. These files contain over one hundred articles by museum staff on subjects ranging from bats and trees to Captain James Cook.

National Geographic IMAX Theatre
The National Geographic Theatre at the Royal BC Museum runs a variety of movies many of which fit nicely into the BC school curriculum. One complimentary ticket per booking is given for the teacher/supervisor (for 15 or more BC students).

Call 953-IMAX for dates and times or visit on-line.
